Officials investigating ‘cluster’ of Legionnaires’ disease cases in Surrey

September 4th, 2018

The Fraser Health Authority has confirmed a “cluster” of cases of Legionnaires’ disease in the Guildford area of Surrey BC.

The organization says public health officials are now trying to track down the source of the bacteria.

Legionella Pneumophila is a very common organism in almost all ground and surface water sources. It becomes a danger to human health when the bacteria finds a suitable environment to multiply and then becomes aerosolized. Recent outbreaks of Legionnaires' Disease have been traced back to biological growth in building water systems, decorative fountains and cooling towers.
