April 17th, 2019

Tests concluded in March 2019, found Legionella bacteria, which can cause Legionnaire’s disease, in a cooling tower on the roof of Terrasses de la Chaudière located in Gatineau, Quebec. Employees in the building were not directly communicated to about the results, which is cause for concern, according to Andrew Shaver, Vice President of the Union of National Employees. Shaver also stated in the interview with CBC News, "My members are already defensive regarding their health with all the other problems that exist in the [building]." It was reported that the building’s cooling tower has been decontaminated, disinfected, and additional testing has been done. Read more about this story here
