Legionella bacteria detected at Salt Spring Island hospital

July 15th, 2019

Island health recently discovered legionella bacteria in the facilities water system at Lady Minto Hospital on Salt Spring Island. Efforts are underway to eradicate the bacteria. In the meantime occupancy are advised against drinking or bathing in the water while bacteria is still present.

It is believed that old water, trapped in dead legs of the hospital system have allowed the bacteria to multiple beyond safe limits.
